Why You Should See a Chiropractor

Last week, we debunked myths related to Chiropractic visits. This week we are going through the main reasons why you should visit a chiropractor.

According to the Canadian Chiropractic Association, only about 15% of Canada’s population sees a chiropractor. So why should you choose to join the 15 percenters and visit a chiropractic office today?

There are two common reasons why people don’t go to the chiropractor’s office to help with their musculoskeletal injuries and spinal health, fear and a bad previous experience.

Chiropractic care is often in the media under negative circumstances, and at times can leave a sour taste in the public’s mouth. These circumstances can cause fear in the public to see a chiropractor and could be one of the reasons that only 15% of the population see one.

Although chiropractic is effective; reduces health care costs; and leaves patients pain free, it is still scrutinized by the public and other health care professional. Chiropractors undergo vigorous training in anatomy, neurology, biomechanics and biochemistry over a 4-year doctorate program. They are highly trained at assessing musculoskeletal injuries throughout the whole body. They look at the body as a whole and the essence of chiropractic care is that treatment focusing on the root cause of the problem, not just the symptoms. Even with the medias instilling fear to the public about chiropractic care, it is still a very safe treatment option for all musculoskeletal issues.

Another common reason that individuals might not see a chiropractor, is they have had or know someone that has had a bad experience with chiropractic care. Just like when you are selecting your fruit at the grocery store, there will be some bad ones in the bunch but that doesn’t represent all of them. Some chiropractors who can give a bad name to the profession make claims to cure uncurable diseases or try and tell you that you need care three times a week for the rest of your life or you will get sick. These claims are not true. When looking to see any health care provider, I recommend looking into them and their style of practice. You most likely will want someone that is looking to make you feel better and uses scientific evidence to get you back to doing what you love to do.

People have often told me as well that they didn’t think that they needed to see a chiropractor because they don’t have pain. Well that is correct, I still recommend seeing a chiropractor every couple of months as a precaution. Similar to seeing the dentist every 6-8 months to make sure you don’t have any cavities, it is a good idea for spinal health to see a chiropractor as they may be able to notice small postural changes that don’t hurt yet but could be a problem down the road. As well, I always like to recommend preventative medicine as it usually will speed up the healing process if an injury is to occur. Chiropractic care can also be a great tool to help increase sports performance.

Chiropractic care is something that you should not be afraid of and can go a long way in helping you stay healthy and do what you love to do.
