Are you or someone you know pregnant and experiencing low back pain? Sciatic pain? Experiencing pain with every day activities? If so, then seeking care from a Webster Technique certified chiropractor might be beneficial to you or your loved one!
The Webster technique is a specific chiropractic analysis and adjustment technique geared more frequently towards pregnant women. The goal of treatment is to reduce dysfunction in the SI joints (the joints that connect your sacrum to your pelvis) in order to balance the pelvis, hips, and back, while pregnant.
That being said this technique can be beneficial for anyone, but it is especially beneficial during pregnancy. Changes in hormones, weight gain, and altered posture at this time, can increase the chance of sacral or pelvic dysfunction. A certified Webster practitioner checks for stiffness in the pelvis by seeing if there is any tightness and/or rotation of the sacrum, the triangular bone at the base of the spine that connects to two hip bones. Addressing imbalances in the pelvis and correcting faulty biomechanics can help decrease pelvic and low back pain. This may contribute to a more comfortable pregnancy and birth.
It is often recommended that this technique be used throughout a mother’s pregnancy to both detect and alleviate any imbalances in the sacrum and to optimize pelvic function. Originally used for breech presentations and then posterior presentations, current research is revealing the benefits of receiving the Webster technique throughout pregnancy for the prevention of dystocia.
